Hi all,

Im nearing the end of a rebuild and based on my budget I now need to decide what to do about graphics card/s.

I have about £75 to spend which is a little flexible. I have always been an Nvidia man so any suggestions of an ATI card will need to be well supported.

My dilema is .... I currently run an AGP card hence the need to change and the one I currently use it an Nvidia 7600 GT 256 mb ddr3 - very nice card.

I am toying with staying with this card in PC-I format or moving up to the 8600 GTS - but this is still only a 256mb ddr 3 card - what am I getting for the extra pennies spent?

I could just stick with the 7600 GT but buy 2 of em for about £85 quid coz my new mother board is SLI capable (dual cards I think that basically means lol)

What about DirectX 10 I hear you say? - Well, if you can explain what this is to me than I'll be happy to listen ...

Any advice from you friendly bunch would be greatfully received

Cheers all

Loz

My advice,,,save another 2 weeks, and some cash to the budget, and buy a card that will last you for a few years

save a few more quid, stick with nvidia and hit the higher end of the 8000 series cards.
you wont regret it where as you may if you go low level cheaper older cards.

I'd forget sli & directx10

I've got a 8800 GTS OC and it does all I need (play CoD4 nice), worth spending that wee bit more - it'll give you another 6 months

Anyways, the budget isnt going to change from the originally posted £75 so what can I get for my money?

I have seen a 1gb DDR2 card for under £60 but why so cheap? what is the advantage of having a DDR3 card over a DDR2 card? (I know, Iknow its one number higher!!!!)

My latest thinking is im going to go for a 8600 GTS 256mb DDR3 card that has a higher core and clock speed (575 mhz and 2000 mhz respectively) - is this better than running 2x 512 DDR2 cards in SLi mode??

Help??? im confusing myself!

Well, Due to the ammount of posts and immense interest in this post, I thought i would post an update on my dilema ......

I managed to source some extra money and because im such a girl and dilly dallied over it for so long nVidia actually brought out a new mid range budget card - the 9600 GT!

So i brought it All the reviews I have read say it out does the 8600 range totally - It outdoes the ATI 3850 range and gives the 3870 range a dam good run for its money

512mb - ddr3 - 675 mhz core - (1800 mhz ddr3) all for £100 ..... nice
